Big Tends In PM Vishwakarma Scheme: A New Dawn for Traditional Artisans and Craftspeople PM Vishwakarma Scheme: A Boost to Traditional Artisans and Craftspeople Overview Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Vishwakarma scheme on September 17, 2023, on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti. The scheme is aimed at providing support to traditional artisans and craftspeople, and to strengthen and nurture the Guru-Shishya parampara or family-based practice of traditional skills. The PM Vishwakarma scheme is fully funded by the Union Government with an outlay of Rs 13,000 crore. It will cover 18 traditional crafts, including pottery, handloom weaving, metalworking, and woodworking. Under the scheme, Vishwakarmas will be provided with recognition through a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card. They will also be given credit support and training for skill upgradation.
